Origin:

Name Root:
expĕdītus
Meaning:*
This name derives from the Latin “expĕdītus,” meaning “agile, uncluttered, with no luggage, armed with light weapons, free of charge, ready, resolute, determined.” Saint Expeditus was a Roman centurion in Armenia who became a Christian and was beheaded during the Diocletian Persecution in 303 A.D. Saint Expeditus is commemorated in the martyrology on April 18 and on April 19. Still, the first date seems to be a mistake (mistakes were widespread in martyrologies). The only facts that seem to be a particular concern the day, April 19, and the place, Melitene (now Malatya, Turkey), of his death; nothing can be said about the circumstances or the period of his martyrdom (it has been told that he died under Diocletian, but this is not substantiated).
