Parménide

This name derives from the Ancient Greek “Parmenídes (Παρμενίδης),” from the Ancient Greek “Parménō (παραμένω),” composed of two elements: “pará ‎(παρά)” (besides by) plus “ménō ‎(μένω)” (to stay, to remain). In turn, the name means “to stay beside, to stand one’s ground.” Parmenides was an ancient Greek philosopher born in Elea, a Greek city on the southern coast of Magna Graecia. He was the founder of the Eleatic school of philosophy. Parmenides's single known work is a poem, On Nature, which has survived only in fragmentary form. In this poem, Parmenides describes two views of reality.
