The theories include: From the Ancient Greek name “Oikouménios (Οἰκουμένιος),” composed of two elements: “oîkos (οἶκος)” (house or dwelling place, room, chamber) plus “ménos ‎(μένος)” (mind, desire, ardor, wish, courage, spirit, vigor). In turn, the name means “the one who is interested in the house, probably the house of God or the church.” Oecumenius (Greek: Oikouménios, Epískopos Tríkkis “Οἰκουμένιος, Ἐπίσκοπος Τρίκκης”), once believed to be a Bishop of Trikka (now Trikala) in Thessaly. He was reputed to be the author of several commentaries on books of the New Testament.
