The oldest public records of the surname appear in 1272 in Huntingdonshire, England, and in 1479 in Ulm, Germany. 1) Leonard of Noblac is a Frankish saint closely associated with the town and abbey of Saint-Léonard-de-Noblat, in Haute-Vienne, in the Limousin region of France. The feast day is traditionally celebrated on November 6. 2) Saint Leonardo Murialdo (1828–1900) was an Italian priest from Turin who established the Congregation of Saint Joseph - also known as the Murialdines. He was canonized in 1970.
