Dhāstān

This name derives from the Middle Persian “dâstân,” meaning “story, tale, parable.” Dastan is an ornate form of oral history from Central Asia, the most famous of “Dede Korkut,” which may have been created as early as the 13th-century. A dastan is generally defined as an individual who protects his tribe or people from an outside invader or enemy. However, only occasionally can this figure be traced back to a historical person. Dastan is a fictional character and the protagonist of “Prince of Persia: The Sands of Time.” The adopted son of Sharaman and brother of Garsiv and Tus, Dastan spent most of his childhood living on the streets Nasaf before a single act of heroism earned him a place in Sharaman’s home as a prince in line to the throne.
