This name comes from the ancient Greek “Aikaterī́nē (Αἰκατερῑ́νη),” which comes from “katharós (καθαρός),” meaning “clean, clear, pure.” In turn, the name means “pure, clear of dirt, clean of shame or guilt, purified.” The name is linked to “Hekátē (Ἑκάτη),” an ancient goddess who is most often shown with two torches or a key and in later periods depicted in triple form.
